I am proud to say that I have finished the entire series in record time, enjoying every moment of it.
These books give off a Harry Potter type feel, with magic and adventures on every page. This series will grab you and not let you go until you have finished them. It's a good clean read, with only small amounts of violence, and next to no sexuality that I would recommend for preteen boys and girls.
As an adult I was impressed by the skill of the author Rick Riordan, very few people have the talent to craft a story with the excitement and fun that he has managed to create.
The books center around Greek mythology something I knew absolutely nothing about until I read them, I now know more than I thought possible from reading a series, it's a fun way to become educated on a topic that is so rarely covered in depth these days.
I will now give the description as listed by www.borders.com to the first book, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.
Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can't seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse -- Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy's mom finds out, she knows it's time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he'll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends -- one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena -- Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.
